The result of Fund Awards (Malaysia) 2010 has been announced on 23 March 2011. There are total of 7 awards to recognize the outstanding funds in 2010.
For this year’s event, we are introducing the Asia-Pacific Equity Award. We trust this new addition will truly represent the trend of investing in Malaysia. Throughout the onset of financial crisis to the current path of recovery, Malaysian investors have witnessed the substantial volatility of the markets, and are now more aware of the importance of risk diversification. This new award should effectively reflect the rapid development of Malaysia’s mutual funds industry, and its investors’ asset allocation across the pan Asia-Pacific region.
Looking back at 2010, the markets were good to mutual funds, as most managers continued to recoup the losses they incurred between 2007 and early 2009. Growth styles outperformed value, whilst small-cap stocks generally outpaced large-cap names.
The winning funds have passed our stringent qualitative and quantitative selection criteria, which we’ve developed to help identify funds that put investors first. Fund performance in the past year is not the only selection criteria for the Morningstar Malaysia Fund Awards. In addition to one-year performance, Morningstar also evaluates each fund’s risk-adjusted returns over a longer period. Morningstar looks for managers who outperformed in 2010 on the heels of much lengthier successes, and measures this success by observing trailing performance along with an emphasis on the fund’s ability to protect investors from downside risks over time.
Lastly, we would like to congratulate and commend the winners of the Fund Awards (Malaysia) 2010 for their exceptional performance to clinch these accolades.
